Selflessness: The King Of Core Values

I have always believed that at the heart of a company, is it’s selfless service to others. The entire purpose of your business should be to help people. People means your customers, but it also includes employees, vendors, partners, and associates.

While being profitable is important, it is secondary to service of others. If this concept is embedded in your ethos at all times, you are going to be a place to succeed (eventually) or pivot until you do.

“The Psychology of Money: Timeless lessons on wealth, greed, and happiness”.

I recently read a book about the “long tail of investing” . One of the key aspects that keep permeating through the 20 different stories told, was how long term investments are successful in the tail over time.

Profitability and selflessness are not mutually exclusive because when you are helping others consistently over time, it gives you many many opportunities to deliver value to others. How does this apply to a business? It is simple… deliver great value and over time, the work will be what leads you to your big break or a large flow of revenue. It is all about delivering that value consistently. If you aren’t doing that, you will not succeed.

Other key core values include integrity, grit and curiosity. More on this later.
